

Movies and Munchies for Session Break
This weekend, students had a 4-day session break, and while some spent their free time off-campus exploring Boston and the region, many students took advantage of the fantastic weekend events to get into the Halloween spirit and get to know the local area. Pumpkin Carving at MAIA!
Students took advantage of a rainy lazy day at MAIA to embrace a popular Halloween tradition, carving pumpkins! Students created Jack-O-Lanterns on Thursday, complete with small fake candles inside, and spooky faces all around. Some students even took their creativity to a new level, scouring the internet for the most complicated designs and using all of the different pumpkin carving kit materials. Trip to Spooky Salem
This week, students joined SA Brianna for a trip to Salem, a historic Massachusetts town famous for it's Halloween festivities and history of witches! Students spent the day in this coastal town dining on seafood, lobster, and Halloween treats! Also last week, students got the chance to try out a new type of food, American Barbecue! Celtics NBA Game: Opening Night!
Students attended the opening night for the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden playing against the Milwaukee Bucks. It was great seeing students come together and cheer for the local professional basketball team. They got to partake in all of the traditions that come along with attending a basketball game including eating traditional game fare, purchasing memorabilia, learning basketball lingo, watching half time shows like dancing and a shooting contest. UMass Boston Open House and Fall Foliage
This weekend, students took two great field trips, one to UMass Boston, and one to the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge. As many MAIA students are planning to go to UMass Boston after their year at MAIA, the UMass Boston trip was a popular option for students this Saturday! Bowling Fun and Scary Movie Night!
Students enjoyed a popular American sport of bowling this week at Bowlero in Shrewsbury. A student advisor took a group of 10 students and split the group into two teams for a fun night at the bowling alley. For some, it was their first time and some had played before. Students had a lot of fun playing and those that had played before taught others tips on how to play which was fantastic to see! Flying High at Sky Zone!
This week at MAIA students got out of their comfort zones and tried a unique, fun way to exercise at Sky Zone in Westborough! Sky Zone is dedicated to providing participants with the pure joy that comes with flying. They are sky lovers, thrill seekers and people who believe that fitness can be fun and play can be smart. Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze
Students embraced a beautiful fall weekend at MAIA with a trip to a local farm! Students got to pick pumpkins to decorate their dorm rooms for fall and got lost in a complicated corn maze before sipping on some traditional apple cider. After a week of mid-session conferences where students met with their teachers one-on-one about their goals and progress, students got a three day weekend to explore Boston and beyond. Mid-Autumn Festival!
This week at MAIA students were able to celebrate a familiar celebration - the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is a harvest festival, celebrated in most East Asian countries, such as China and Vietnam. The festival takes places on month 8 day 15 of the Chinese calendar. In 2017 it's on October 4th. It is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. Six Flags and University Visits
This weekend, almost every student at MAIA went off campus to experience three different corners of Massachusetts! On Saturday, many students took the weekly Loop Bus to Chinatown in Boston, and others went on a hike with the Outdoor Adventure Club to Gates Pond Reservation.
