Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration
Annually, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, which fell on Monday September 24th this year. For most MAIA students, this year was the first time celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival away from home and without family. To ease the homesickness somewhat, Student Advisors put together an evening for the students to celebrate together. After dinner, most of the MAIA student population convened in the atrium where they enjoyed traditional lotus seed moon cakes, spicy peanuts, watermelon and grapes. White paper lanterns were available for students to paint and decorate as they wished and everyone had a lot fun doing it! After the lanterns were covered in vibrant color, glitter, drawings, and names, they were hung from the ceiling for everyone to see. There were also little "moon cake" pieces of paper on which students could write about what the holiday meant to them, and then could paste onto a large poster with the other responses. Everyone seemed to have a good time celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in their new home with their new MAIA family.
